Endometriosis & Me.
When a physical illness starts affecting much more than physical symptoms.
Endometriosis can reach into plans, work, relationships, confidence, decisions and the way you relate to your own body.
I offer individual psychological therapy for people living with endometriosis or symptoms of endometriosis, alongside the medical care already taking place.
A condition can be physical and still affect almost every psychological layer of life.
The illness is physical.
The impact does not stop there.
Living with uncertainty
Symptoms change. Plans change. Answers are not always immediate. The mind can spend enormous amounts of energy trying to create certainty where certainty is not available.
The pressure to keep functioning
Rest, cancellations or changing limits can easily become tangled with guilt, frustration or the sense that you should be coping better.
Who you are around the illness
When health begins influencing work, relationships and everyday decisions, it can also start changing how you see yourself.
One condition.
More than one psychological need.
To understand patterns around anxiety, attention, behaviour, avoidance, self-criticism and coping.
To work with uncertainty, limitations and the tension between what cannot be controlled and what still matters.
To address guilt, shame, harsh self-evaluation and the pressure to cope perfectly with something inherently difficult.
I know endometriosis from more than one side.
Endometriosis is also part of my own lived experience.
That is not what therapy with me is centred around, but it has shaped my understanding of how much can sit behind a diagnosis: the waiting, the adjustments, the difficult decisions, the frustration and the ongoing work of fitting an unpredictable condition into an ordinary life.
My role is to bring that understanding together with psychological training and evidence-based therapy, while keeping the focus firmly on your experience.
Different parts of the same experience.
